Pollinators including bees, butterflies and moths all rely on wild flowers as a source of food. The majority of flowering plants growing across the world rely on the animals to pollinate them, which also include many valuable food crops grown by farmers. The workings of the food chain see the insects that feed on the wild flowers provide a source of food for the next animals in the chain and so it goes on.
Establishing wild flower meadows is something that Bourne Bespoke is very experienced in doing. From the initial ground preparation right through to the cut and collect of the meadows at the end of the growing season.
We can source a huge variety of different wild flower seed mixes to best suit your soil conditions. You can either create completely new wildflower meadows or improve existing grasslands. Once again, from the initial site inspection and meeting, we can find the perfect mix specifically for you and your requirements.
Ground preparation is absolutely critical. Wildflower seeds take longer to germinate than most other seeds and weeds so ongoing monitoring of the seeded area is a must. Once the seeds are sown, usually within 8 weeks, signs of new life can be seen. The show of colours once they establish themselves is absolutely incredible. Usually sown mid-April to early May, wildflowers depending on the species can then flower right up until October.
